December 10, 2025 by Sydney Ackerman

Welcome to Cedar Classical Academy’s Christmas Gift Guide!

Our staff has compiled gift recommendations for the children and families in your life. Keep scrolling for our practical, tried-and-true, and sometimes unconventional picks for this Christmas season!

For even more gift ideas, check out our 2022 guide, 2020 guide, and our 2020 read-aloud and book list.

Mrs. Dingee recommends:

1. This Ecologies: Hidden Habitats board game from Montrose Biology:

2. An embroidery kit:

Mrs. Peng recommends:

1. Sword & Dagger Bookmarks. Mrs. Peng says: “Better than dog-earing your books!”

2. Throw Throw Burrito. Mrs. Peng says: “For any one who can take a hit from a squishy burrito. This is one of my kids’ favorites. Clear the living room for an epic burrito war!”

Mrs. Moll recommends:

1. Origami Paper.

2. The World’s Best Drawing Pencils.

Mrs. Zuiderveen recommends:

1. 3D Puzzles. Mrs. Zuiderveen says: “There are lots of different puzzles, but my boys have enjoyed the rubber band guns!”

Mrs. Hummel recommends:

1. Two books for parents: Outdoor Kids in an Inside World and Heading Out on Your Own. Mrs. Hummel says: “One of our favorite conversation topics with friends is what we want our kids to learn before they head out on their own, from folding a fitted sheet to starting a fire to cultivating the habit of daily devotions. These books provide a lot of great inspiration for what to teach your kids next.”

Mrs. Sova recommends:

1. Deduckto. Mrs. Sova says: “Deduckto has quickly become a favorite card game for our family! It says ages 8+, but our six-year-old holds her own when we play. We love the silly character disguises and how we get to use logic and deduction skills to try to win.”

Mrs. Ackerman recommends:

1. This expensive trashcan. Just kidding. It is the Kan Jam frisbee game! Mrs. Ackerman says: “Boy, is it fun!”

2. Learn to Crochet Kit.

Mr. Hummel recommends:

1. Pinball Machine. Mr. Hummel says: “This is a great toy for 1st Grade and up. It is fun, requires a lot of coordination, and no matter how well you do there is always a more perfect score.”

Plus, Nine Read-Aloud Ideas!

  1. Treasure Island illustrated by N.C. Wyeth – Mrs. Hummel
  2. Mr. Willoughby’s Christmas Tree – Mrs. Peng
  3. Homer Price – Mrs. Peng
  4. The Trumpet of the Swan – Mrs. Peng
  5. The Complete Brambly Hedge – Mrs. Zuiderveen
  6. Sarah, Plain and Tall series – Mrs. Dingee
  7. A Place to Hang the Moon – Mrs. Moll
  8. A Tree for Peter – Mrs. Moll
  9. “It’s not a new book suggestion, but our family has loved following along with literature class at home. We make it a habit to read aloud the book our oldest child is reading at school. This is a fun way for our whole family to experience the story together and to include the younger sibling in the conversation.” – Mrs. Sova
