Since Cedar Classical Academy opened its doors in 2019, it has grown from 31 students in grades K-6 to 91 students in grades K-9 and expects 100+ students in grades K-10 this fall.
This growth prompted Cedar to pursue additional classroom space in 2021. Thanks to sacrificial donors, we raised $430,000 toward that end during our 2021-2022 capital campaign.
We did not imagine that those efforts and those dollars would lead us here—to purchase our own building!
Our new address will be 7520 Westshire Drive, Lansing, MI 48917.
We are calling this little building our “starter home.” Do you remember your first home? While not perfect, your first home always carries with it some nostalgia because of what it represents: the establishment of your family and of your family’s culture. This is what we hope this building can be for Cedar Classical Academy.
In purchasing a building, we have the luxury and opportunity to make our classical Christian vision concrete and tangible. In our current rented space, Cedar Classical Academy stores away its furniture and disappears every weekend and every summer, and we do not have a street sign. These have been reasonable constraints on a fledgling school, but we are always asking ourselves, “How can we better communicate our mission and vision?” Through our changes to and maintenance of our new property, we can say something about what we value—beauty. We can help visitors, passers-by, parents, and students gain a deeper understanding of Cedar’s mission.
With our own building, we can put Cedar on a path to strategically and incrementally upgrade its facility as it grows without outpacing its cultural strength and financial capacity. This is a major change—on a minor scale.
This summer, we will be renovating this property inside and out! Over the next three years, we plan to add grades 10, 11, and 12 at this new location. Thanks for sticking with Cedar for all the exciting things to come.
